Welcome to Fairhaven Services

Fairhaven Services is a social enterprise dedicated to ensuring that intellectual disability is no boundary for Central Coast people. We not only provide accommodation and care at our various residential sites around the area, but opportunities for people to earn a living through employment at our various businesses including Pacific CoPack, the new name for our successful packaging and assembly arm.

It is important for us all to realise that people with intellectual disabilities have much to contribute and Fairhaven Services ensures that the Central Coast has many opportunities for them to do just that.

Training the key to professional seachange

When Veronika Gray decided that she had enough of the corporate world, she thought that the community service sector would offer her a hands-on opportunity to make a positive difference in people’s lives. However, the prospect of retraining was at first a daunting one.

“When you decide to change careers, it’s exciting, but nerve-wracking in many ways,” said Veronika. “After you have worked for a while, you can feel a little unsure about hitting the books again.”

“My employer recommended a training company and I decided to give it a go.”

Veronika enrolled in the Certificate III in Community Service Work course at Focus OzE Learning, which is a relatively new registered training organisation at Point Clare. Focus OzE Learning is managed by Fairhaven Services, so is in the unique position of supporting a local charity while providing training to help get local people employed.

Michael Meechan manages Focus OzE Learning and enjoys the opportunity to assist people in securing what is often life-changing employment.

“People from all walks of life come to Focus OzE Learning for training,” said Michael.

“We see many mothers returning to work after having children, people whose workplace injuries or even age means that they have to start a new career,” he added.

Focus OzE Learning is accredited to provide nationally recognised qualifications in a number of areas from business to retail training and community services.

“You have to be dedicated and self-motivated to get the most out of training, but the staff at Focus OzE learning are very supportive and put in a lot of time to help you understand the material,” said Veronika. “If you are willing to put in the work, the rewards can be great.

Veronika has already been employed as a youth worker at Woy Woy Youth Cottage following her training.

“It’s very rewarding to help kids in crisis find stability and security,” said Veronika.

“No disrespect to people in the corporate world, but it wasn’t for me. I feel like I’ve found my soul again!”!” she laughed.

Veronika intends to further develop her community services career by studying Certificate IV in Community Service Work at Focus OzE Learning.

“Veronika is one of our best and brightest,” said Michael. “I’ve no doubt that she will go far in her chosen field.”
